Last week was somewhat of a whirlwind for myself and the team at Gravity. After winning Regional Winner of Young Person in Business for the Chamber Awards in October, I was then nominated to win for the UK overall.
I was completely shocked to win my region never mind being nominated for the UK so it was an honour to be able to attend the awards ceremony. The Chamber Awards ceremony was held at the Tower of London last Thursday 27th November and the event was spectacular! The venue was dressed and lit up for the occasion while the men donned a tux and the ladies designer dresses.
My nerves were definitely present as Georgie Thompson (Sky Presenter) was announcing the winners of each category. When it came to my category I poised myself and waited to hear the result with anticipation! Unfortunately the lovely Georgie did not announce my name and although slightly disappointed I was still delighted to have been nominated and to get that far along with being the winner for my region. The rest of the NI Chamber guests were very supportive to me and two other companies were successful in their categories that evening; Sepha and CDE Global so congrats to them as it was well deserved!
Rising from bed on Friday morning after the awards ceremony, I did not only have the joy of a fuzzy head from the wine the night before but more importantly the joy of getting a phone call from Sky News requesting an interview.
The lovely Hannah from Sky News asked if I had availability to come to their studio at the Gherkin for an interview and without hesitation I stated of course I was! After making my way to the amazing Gherkin I was brought up to the studios on the 15th floor and waited to be called. While waiting tentatively in the reception I was preparing my responses for the interview questions so that my 15 minutes of fame could go smoothly!
After being applied with some makeup (a real first for me!!) I was then shown my seat in the newsroom. Overwhelmed but obviously playing it cool it was straight into lights, camera, action! I was asked to introduce myself and tell the story about starting Gravity and being a young person in business. Hannah presented me with some very interesting questions and it was very enjoyable to share my viewpoint on business. The interview lasted for a brief 3 minutes but felt much longer. I was told it would be edited down into a short clip, which I didn’t mind at all as it was great to be featured no matter how long it was for. Click on the image below to see the interview:
Once finished the interview was added to the business section of Sky News website and app. This was great publicity for Gravity and gave us plenty to share on our social marketing channels. I would like to thank everyone whom showed their very kind support to us on our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, it really does mean a lot to have such great support. Finally thanks to all at the Chamber Awards team for putting on a great event along with the team at NI Chamber of Commerce for their ongoing support.
It was a great week for all the team at Gravity and we hope for many more like it!
