Terex Corporation is a global manufacturer of machinery and industrial product. Materials Processing and Construction, which incorporate 6 businesses required an Enterprise Mobility platform. Native tablet apps and an Admin Management System mobilises Terex's data and provides an extensive sales tool.
Discovery, technical planning and architecture of the platform was the first phase we embarked on and ensured that we started with a solid framework for development of the technology along with defining the needs of the user to ensure superior User Experience. This planning also encompassed the detailing of the data extraction process from the Oracle UCM and required setup for the Cloud service. Once the data extraction script was developed, we then focussed on a robust Cloud service.
Each of the 6 business uses a centrally controlled Oracle Universal Content Management portal that stores all secure documentation and marketing resources that is only accessible through the desktop. Data extraction occurs from this source and is then deployed to a distributed Cloud service and a suite of iPad and Android tablet apps, thus allowing the global Dealers of each business to avail of the latest collateral remotely thus increasing efficiency within the sales process.
Utilising Rackspace's Content Delivery Network Cloud product, data content is delivered rapidly around the world with Akamai's Content Delivery Network. There are 213 of Akamai's edge locations and designed to cover all major areas of the globe. This CDN caches content at those edge locations, saving users time as they receive content from within their region, instead of from the origin server. This service ensures that no matter where the Dealer is based, data is instantly available ensuring maximum sales productivity for each user.
Throughout the discovery and technical planning, our Digital User Interface designers and Software Engineers collaborated together to define the requirements for the user journey for the iPad and Android tablet application. Consideration of User Experience and design of the User Interface was extremely important as not every user was a previous iPad or Android tablet user. Research and extensive wire-framing and prototyping took place, eventually determining a design that could be replicated across all business lines with minor tweaks. Utilising the brand guidelines for each of the 6 businesses we ensured the Terex brand was enhanced on this digital medium. Consideration during this phase was also given to the App Management System user interface for the desktop ensuring administration of the platform could be performed with ease.
A secure App Management System allows Terex to manage various aspects of the apps such as: product ordering, product names, user access, reporting and most importantly Terex can also remotely wipe the apps and the associated data from the iPad or Android tablet devices using a function on the system.
It was agreed that native apps for iPad and Android were to be developed to facilitate access to this remotely along with other functionality. The apps have a secure login and authentication procedure using Active Directory on the Oracle UCM server. This allows users to access both the portal and app with the same login credentials.
Upon launch a data sync occurs, which syncs all data from our Cloud services to the apps. The user can then access the desired data or resources associated with each product, such as brochure documents, technical documents images, video, etc. This data can be viewed and shared via email or print functionality directly from the apps. An offline mode is available to the user so that they can avail of all data with no 3G/4G or Wifi connection.
Other functionality such as send a postcard of a particular product model, access the helpdesk and also access to the parts desk also exist from the apps.
The 6 business lines consisted of Powerscreen, Terex Finlay, Terex Washing Systems, Terex Environmental Equipment, Terex MPS and Terex Construction.
